New Year and C.E.D.A.R

2010 has left us and Welcome, 2011!

Happy New Year 2011 to my readers! :)

My Sony Ericsson J108i a.k.a Cedar

Talking about new year, this is also a new thing for me! ;)

This Sony Ericsson Cedar has made his way to my family of my prized possessions.

I bought it for RM295, an original set from a reputable online HP shop.

Why I like to buy things online?

Because I "tak reti to tawar-menawar, malas nak check betul2" whether the phone is original or AP set etc. So when i came across this one online shop, and after verifying that online store is actually 'real', so I made my decision to buy SE Cedar from there.

I've check other prices too and the price offered is competitive (you'll get what you pay)..

What does this SE Cedar offer? You can read it here.

Yeah, it's basic 3G handphone etc. but for me it will be suffice for my own use.

I'm not the type that needs 'on-the-go' internet, read and editing e-mails on the phone etc. that smart phones offer i.e BlackBerry, SE Xperia, Nokia C6 etc. So, most the functions are overkill for me and so does the price!

F Y I, it's my first "coloured screen-mms-mp3-camera" phone for me (unbelievable?)

I've started with a clamp-shell Motorola phone when I started my studies at CFS IIUM (formerly known as Matriculation Centre), even then it's an old model. Then moved to Nokia 1-series (1100, 1200 and its siblings.)

Before last puasa month, one of my Nokia phones had been stolen from my own room (I use 2 numbers, Maxis and Celcom. The stolen one was Maxis.)

Thus, after replacing the SIM card (for the 3rd time!) at Maxis Centre KLCC, surely I need a new phone to use with that SIM card and it's actually in my planning to buy a new phone as my 'graduation present' from myself, to myself.

As if Sony Ericsson read my mind (pardon the exaggeration), they just released SE Cedar last June, and released for Malaysian market, last November. The specifications of the phone was just what I needed, and the price was in my budget, so walla, I bought it!

After years using Nokia, using a Sony Ericsson model is a new experience.
Although it's not that different, I still need time to familiarize myself using it and be comfortable with it.

A little review from my side:

Pros:
  • It is what i want in terms of specification
  • It's one of the SE GreenHeart models (the models in GreenHeart series are made with minimum waste, using recycled paper and water-based paint, using e-manual rather than paper-based manual etc. Other models are SE Elm and Aspen)
  • Great MP3 player and sound (I don't need a separate MP3 player)
  • A microUSB cable can be your phone charger and also as a data transfer cable between ur PC n phone
Cons:
  • You will only get the handphone, battery, charger and some papers (it is a small box!)
  • You need to buy your own earphones (if you don't have one), memory card (if you don't have one) and a microUSB data transfer cable (if you don't have one) (SE considers these things are common and you should have them laying around in your house)
  • A mediocre 2MP camera with no flash n autofocus (well, i don't need that camera too much)
  • No number-coded keypad lock like Nokia
  • Using the e-manual in the phone was not as smooth as reading a paper-based manual

Well, the cons actually just small matters and will not make the SE Cedar a failure or a bad phone.

As a sub-RM300 phone, it is a value-for-price phone.

As a conclusion, for me, this Sony Ericsson Cedar phone is great..

A new phone to start a new year! :)
